I've never climbed outside of the United States before, but will be going to a wedding in Belgium in about a week and a half. I really want to get some climbing in since the Freyr seems to be amazing. There is a lot of contradictory information out there, however, about who can climb. I have read that you have to be a part of the Belgium Alpine Club or another approved alpine club. Others have said that this is not really an issue and climbing access is open to anyone.
Has anyone climbed in Belgium or have any more information on this topic?

Freyer is a populair area in belgium. About a decade ago people came in bus loads, so now there is a system of climbing cards availible from climbing/alpine clubs in europe. i have never been checked, though... Don't forget to pay if you want to sleep on the camp area or in the little cabin.
The area is well climbed, so all the easy routes are slippery, so are the first steps on harder routes. Alle routes are sport routes, but bolt quality may vary.

I wasn´t too impressed with Freyr as it happens, it looks better than the climbing is but I´m not such a fan of polished, crowded cliffs anyway, each to his own I guess.
You are supposed to be a member of an Alpine club with reciprocal rights but checking seemed sparodic to say the least.
Personally I preferred Dave and Beez as more my sort of climbing being a bit steeper and generally more friction.

For an aprés climb beer then Dinant is to be recommended, birthplace of the saxaphone!

So if your in Dinant go to Freyr, climb and see what happens. I'm never tjeckt for a climbing card in Freyr. The do tjeck during the hollidays and weekends when its crowded.
The only thing what happens whit out a card is that they ask you to leave(fore dutch and Belgium's) for other nations it no problem.
