Mum thinks i'm crazy for trying rock climbing, but three months and i realize ive found my niche. However, 19/f in central jersey, climbing indoors in a gym isn't really gonna get far without some help. ISO 20-something partner/mentor. I'm very enthusiastic and fairly quick to learn technique.

19 - f? I'm sure that you can find some belay slave in local gym.

Though it isn't really the season for climbing outside <--"Looks out the window and see's snow".

Ok, Time to go winter bouldering!!

Take up ice climbing. My mom loves it when I tell her about the time I pulled down a 30' freestanding pillar around my ears. Boy was that ever smart... (telling her, that is)

Is Cradlerock closed still? Are you near there? Could be nice on the south facing problems if it's open, no need for a rope.

In regard to dealing with your parents, don't tell em about the inherent dangers...My dad learned to quit asking a long time ago. It would be Dan: how was your trip? Oh, I took a few 20 footers and a 30 footer !! it was great , and they were all on face climbings. BTW, my friends say that if I don't get a new rope, I'm probably going to break this one I have... I think they're full of it, but could you get me a new rope please?

To get em off you back, take them once and make sure that you are TRing casual stuff and make it look really easy. The gym is usually the best.

you funny people. i just love the laid back climbing crew. yeah the guys at the gym are loads of fun but i'm not really out to make anyone my slave. i haven't done anything outdoors yet, i was invited to the gunks a couple times but wasn't confident enough then. i'll wait out the winter and look forward to spring. As for my mum, i've always found the less she knows, the better her health is. i'm not worried about her. however, i do fear that i'm swimming in still water. you can only traverse for so long... thank god for bouldering, eh?

Yeah, my parents think I'm nuts for climbing. I can't wait till I go away to school, I'll be at the crag everyday I can.

I took my parents to the gym when I first started out. I think they were more comfortable with it since I was taking a class. Now they just shake their heads when I talk about climbing

Julian-
I'm 23, and live in Princeton. I've only been climbing a couple months, but seem to be picking it up pretty quickly. rehabbing from a torn acl has slowed me down a little, but hopefully by the spring i'll be ready to go. i wont be able to teach you any new tricks (at least not yet), but if you ever need someone you dont have to worry making ass out of yourself in front of, i'm your guy. plus its nice to meet people with a fellow mindset...they're tough to come by in NJ.

p.s. i have to admit that i have no idea where rumson is....

Ahh rumson is east bumble%@#$.
i live right by the ocean and the magical disappearing Sandy Hook (erosion). Devon, i'm probably an hour from ya. Would love to climb with someone on similar grounds! I'll still make an ass of myself tho. Always do.

If you make it up to Montreal, Quebec, or heading up to the great northern, peaceful moderately left-wing country of Canada, drop me a line, there's some awesome sport climbing all along the NY state and Vermont border and some wicked trad in the Adirondacks.

Hey there...

23/F from New Jersey... My problem is that I can't find anyone who likes to climb as much as me... I am into outside climbing/bouldering but love the gym too... I have been at it about a year... For now, I am only experienced in top roping but would love to get into lead climbing.. I live in the morristown area so if you ever want to get together let me know.. :-)

Thanks,

Katie
