It's time to separate the thread about the accident at the New.
"A Midlothian woman died after falling about 65 feet in a rock-climbing accident Saturday in West Virginia, authorities said yesterday.
Karen Feher, 33, had reached the top of a climb in the Kaymoor Buttress area of New River Gorge National River when she fell about 4:30 p.m., said New River Gorge acting chief ranger Chuck Noll.
Feher had secured herself to anchors at the top of a sandstone cliff just before she fell, Noll said. "The fall was caused when a piece of equipment failed due to a rigging error," he said. "

I didn't know you, but we share a passion for our children and rock climbing. Rest in Peace.

I feel confident in saying that all of us in the climbing community here at the New feel horrible about this accident. I didn't know Karen either, but we're joined in some way by our love of climbing. Rest in peace, Karen.

But now that I've seen this video (below), I must pass it on. Here's a pic i took at old Rag Va, a few winters ago.
We will all miss Karen Feher for the way she honored the mountains, and the dignity she brought to climbing. RIP

This breaks my heart. Jay gave me my first lead belay almost ten years ago at the Manchester Wall. Any given day, you could find Karen, Jay, and the kids at Peak, having a great time. It was always inspiring to see how they managed having a family and climbing at the same time. Always so kind.
Jay, I'm so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts.

Back when I was just starting out, Karen, J, and Ben invited me to rope up with them. I partnered up with Karen and she did nothing short of kick my butt (which she has done countless times since then). Always a strong, confident, safe, and inspiring climber, simply an amazing human being.
Watching the slideshows of her life, Pete put it very well... "she really killed it!" And she did. Karen and her family have climbed, hiked, and explored all over the United States, and she did so with a huge grin on her face the whole time. Most people can only hope to live half the life she did in her short 33 years. She's an inspiration to us all, and inspires me to start taking the huge bites of life that I thought I no longer had the stomach for.
