hey so i've been climbing about 10months, only really indoors, leading 6a+ clean and i'm returning to ottawa for 5 days from the UK. i'm not bringing my rope cause its just impractical for such a short visit. anyone wanna climb in the daytime? and can anyone recommend a decent indoor gym in ottawa with bouldering? (so that if i don't find a buddy to lead/top with i can at least work some boulder probs) also is there anywhere nearby to go boulder outdoors? spike x

When, exactly, will you be in Ottawa? I have rope and gear, but am pretty busy. Gym: Coyote Rock Gym: www.coyoterockgym.ca has a fair bit of bouldering and top-rope, limited lead climbing. Outdoor bouldering: there's bit around, but most of the close stuff has just recently been closed by the park administration of the park it lies in.

For bouldering and TR, I think Coyote is better than VR. For lead, VR is far better. If you change your mind about heading outside, Val-David is a couple hours away and has pretty good bouldering (mostly V5+). If you're looking to hook up with someone to climb, a better bet would be to try www.ottawaclimbing.com

I'm available to climb on the 29th, and would be happy to meet up and go climbing with you. I've got rope and gear (and even a spare harness if you need it). I'd be interested in climbing, though, rather than bouldering. (I'm currently in California on business, and don't fly home until Saturday.)

Also, on ottawa climbing you'd mostly find people to boulder with, rather than climb with.

Yeah, I thought that leaving on the 29th might make it not work for you.
