I'm a Midwest climber who heads to CO every summer to backpack w/ college buddies. THis year, I'd love to bring out my climbing partner and backpack for several miles to some kind of multi-pitch, established, trad routes--ranging from 5.9-5.11. I'd love to be able to climb in the morning and then simply chill w/the tent and a beer in the late afternoon. Any beta as to where to go?

Rocky Mtn. National Park would be great but I think you would have to set up a basecamp at one of the designated campgrounds. The other destination would be Colorado Monument which would be really cool. You could hike in to a climb and set up camp a few hundred feet away. Climb in the morning on single pitch to 800 ft. routes, or boulder, and then back to camp. You could move camp each day and climb on a new formation.

Thanks for the info, Munky! I will look into CO Monument. From your description, it sounds ideal!

The Wind River Range in WY has exactly what you're looking for, as do the Enchantments in WA (though there's a bit of a permit issue), or the high sierra, or heck - the Cirque of the Unclimbables!
