Just came across an article addressing various myths in the roped rescue industry. Not all the information is applicable to recreational climbing, but I figured some folks would find it informative if not interesting. The Myths: MISCONCEPTION NO. 1: RESCUE HARDWARE FOR THE FIRE SERVICE IS REQUIRED TO BE MADE FROM STEEL MISCONCEPTION NO. 2: SAFETY KNOTS ARE REQUIRED MISCONCEPTION NO. 3: LOAD-SHARING MULTIPOINT ANCHOR SYSTEMS ARE BETTER THAN LOAD-DISTRIBUTING VERSIONS, OR VICE VERSA MISCONCEPTION NO. 4: WE ARE REQUIRED TO USE A SAFETY FACTOR OF 15:1 The article: http://firechief.com/...rescue-myths-201007/ Mods: please relocate if you think this should go in another forum.
