Nick was walking the line today checking permits. That tells me there is no telling when he might come by and ask for your permit. That horrible imo brown steel box, with the receiving part too small to hold a weekend's worth, is newly painted, so they mean to keep this going, it seems. LL

Nick, the young new ranger who is still slim and who does at least bouldering, usually is the one walking the cliff checking. But Matt Windsor, superintendent, has also made a few trips himself. That is why the anchors next to 'Pee Break' were removed: Matt saw the trail congestion from climbers, as well as getting hiker complaints. That is also why his post to CCC strongly discouraging dogs at climbing areas. This is not imo a laughing matter. The "outlaw" mentality common to climbers, of doing what you feel like because you feel like it, is becoming more a danger to climbing in state parks. If every route that produces trail conflict will be closed, what will be left at Pilot? The permits certify compliance with park regulations. Park staff are still being nice about it. Climbers better be good about it too, imo. LL
