Apparently have strained/partially torn my medial gastrocnemius--typical "tennis leg" sort of injury. I'm currently doing the RICE thing--any additional advice? Thanks much. Getting old sucks... Curt

I agree. getting old sucks. When my old man was dying of cancer, I started whining about knee pain...he just looked at me and said, "it doesn't get better"... RICE is the remedy, also, keep it moving without resistance, depending on severity. Little ankle circles, write the alphabet with your big toe in the air, etc. When the pain, swelling, ecchymosis (bruising) decreases, start VERY gentle resistive exercises, like resistance bands, progressing to closed chain when appropriate. 4-12 weeks, assuming you are not a surgical candidate. depending on severity. Keep me posted.

Fortunately, I have very minimal swelling/bruising, so I'm hoping for much closer to 4 weeks. Thanks much for the additional inputs. Curt

"A medial calf injury is often seen in the intermittently active athlete, often referred to as the 'weekend warrior.' " (emedicine) How do you like them apples? Ok, I am having fun at your expense! Can't really add much to oahm's advice except maybe a little massage to the area to help move fluid out.
