503 error just means it was down for maintenance (totally possible if it's a new site and they overlooked a minor detail or two) or it got too much traffic to handle at that moment.

It's just worded badly. It basically means that the site's Web server is down or overloaded.

I recall reading that usernames must be either first initial and last name or first name and last initial...or your full name. Something like that. Sooo, nah, probably not.
