I severely strained my Achilles' tendon in an accident a week ago and have been unable to climb since (and will be unable to climb for some time).I was wondering what is the longest time that you've been unable to climb due to an injury and how you stoped yourself going insane? (I really need to climb something!!! ) [ This Message was edited by: nadroj on 2002-12-23 04:38 ]

I'd have to say three weeks worth of limping... couldn't hardly do anything, but they said my foot wasn't broken, and it stopped hurting about a month and a half later.

so far with my broken ankle I've been out 3 1/2 months... I guessing I'll be out a full 6 months before I'm able to climb again and a year before I'm climbing hard...

6 months. (3 months with a broken hand and 3 months of total fire restrictions.) How did I not go crazy? I honestly don't remember. Lots of time on RC.com, rockclimbing videos every day, and any type of excersize your injury still allows you to do (in your case, pullups every day, lots of them)... if you enjoy reading, just study up and read books and magazines about climbing. Best of luck to you, man! Rest assured, this time shall pass. James.

It's been up to 6 monts as of now, for me. I tore a finger pulley in my middle finger. It feels like it will be at least another 2 months. For entertainment, I spend time on rc.com

I was out probably 5 or 6 months when I broke my foot bouldering...some of that was probably fear though. I wasn't too into it yet so I didn't go crazy being out, plus I got married during that time (luckily after I was off crutches). That kept me pretty busy. Then, just a little while ago, I was out....13 months because I had a baby. I pretty much did go crazy waiting to get back on the rock that time. Whenever I can't climb, I like to watch climbing videos (and get even more depressed that that's not me) and come to rc.com. Good Luck.

2 years. Blew out a disc in my cervical vertebrae and required surgery. (Wasn't even climbing when I did it!) Doctor told me I needed to take at least one year off or I'd never climb again, so I took two just to be safe. Do I win?

Yikes, those are some BAD injuries. I was out most of a YEAR due to pulley tendon tear (I actually HEARD it tear). I was only "completely" down for maybe 3-4 months. But I was climbing "light" on it for maybe another 2 months. And it took another 3 months to get back to its former (reinjury)strength.

Wait a minute, it wasn't 13 months, it was like 7 months, but that was long enough.
