Since I have started climbing I have aquired quite alot of gear, my biggest problem however is that here in South Africa, there is no short supply of criminals. I often hear of people being robbed and hijacked, only to loose all their gear, and this by people that aren't even going to use the stuff, they can't sell it or use it or anything, and if you would get into an argument about your gear you will likely end up getting shot. The reason I brought this up was because I just read in a SA climbing classified of some people that got hijacked and lost all their gear(Full trad racks, ropes etc.), It would take years to be able to replace even the amount of gear I have, and I don't even own trad stuff yet. Luckily if you get mugged at a crag, they usually don't take your gear, I think they know they can't use it.. But in hijackings they take everything, even the shoes on your feet... My one friend was even stripped down to his underpants and left in the middle of a township.
