A friend just posted photos to FB of Thacher State Park in upstate NY (just west of Albany). I have to say the place looks amazing, if not for rock climbing, then certainly for ice. The Park's website says limestone. Much if it looks about 60-100 feet tall, with lots of past-vertical terrain. I've never heard of it, though it looks quite extensive with well over a mile of unbroken cliffline -- at least. Anybody been there?

It's possible climbing is prohibited, I suppose.

I didn't recognize the name, but the photos look familiar. Is it near Ithaca?

A lot of the rock up there is choss.

When I went walking up there the cliffs we were under were restricted from climbing. I believe the concern was dropping rock on tourists. The third pic from the top looks REALLY familiar.

There LOOKED to be some good routes when I was there, but as mentioned the rock quality was highly suspect.

Our Proposal consists of opening various parts of the park in phases and slowly developing sport routes with trad routes on the solid cracks. - Mike, Founder, Thacher Climbing Coalition
