It seems that in the U.S. most of medical insurance will only cover a minimal amount of the cost. Rescue, Physical Therapy, and additional Medical Visits are Not covered. Which could cost thousands of dollars from your pocket, or losing your family's security?

So which coverage is the best at the lowest cost for climbers injuries?

Aetna has been good to me. Two shoulder surgeries, foot rehab, etc. and they never balked. Told the docs it was climbing related. Costs about 15$ copay per PT visit.

Medicare + an AARP supplement plan covered nearly everything after Charlie's back-breaking leader fall at the Ouray Ice Park last winter.

Of course, you have to be over 65 to enroll...

I'll second Aetna...never a peep out of them about what or why.

Look around at all the different plans. There are tons and tons of insurance companys, and each company has tons of different plans. Each plan has pros and cons. You need to take a look at them compare costs / benefits and decide which one is best for you. I work in a surgery center and deal with insurances on a daily basis. Maybe for a climber a plan that has cheap Physical therapy / office visit copays would be nice? Let me know if you have any questions.
