Hi All!
I am planning a backpacking/bouldering trip to Europe and I am wondering when the best time of year to go is? I would love to go September/October..
Also, any other information about best bouldering, hostels and all that would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

July and August are the most popular months to visit Europe, when many Americans and Europeans take advantage of their vacation days and fine weather.

Temperatures begin to cool down from mid-September and winter starts creeping in by November. This is similar to spring climate-wise and it can also be a great time to travel. In the northern parts of Europe, the scenery turns into brown and gold as trees start to shed their leaves. In southern Europe, the days become milder but are still quite warm. Balmy nights are not uncommon in September and October.

Isn't the dollar an issue, compared to the euro's?
On the other hand even the poorest european gets to climb with just a song.
Any great ideas ? Post please. In reference to climbing, and staying there cheap . thanks

I spent four months traveling with my ex about 4 years ago. We bought a van @ dutchcampervans.com (sketchy to think about but brilliant in practice). Total cost (for non-budget conscious people - so we could have done much cheaper) was 15k Canadian including flights. We climbed throughout western Europe - Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland. I can't think of a better way to travel for climbing.

The van was $5000 and then we sold it back for %50. It broke down once and we needed to spend 3 days in Torino. Total cost: $250. It had somewhere to sleep, a stove for cooking and was transportation to all but the most remote climbing areas (which basically means to the base of the gondola in Chamonix).

Even for two months I think it would be worth it.

We went May - August. Southern Italy was too hot in July/August but the Alps were lovely.

Poke me if you'd like some more details.
