My climbing partner and I are going traveling for 3 months in the summer and are looking for travel insurance that covers rock climbing accidents. Does anyone know of one that accepts the SE Asia region?? For Americans and Irish.

I just booked some travel insurance for a climbing trip though North America.
The only company I could find that would cover everything I was after was ihi Bupa.

Check out http://www.imglobal.com. I am on their Global Long Term health plan and have been satisfied so far. They have travelers insurance and an adventure sports policy as well.
Don't know about the premiums or benefits for the plans you'd be interested in but I can say that they are very familiar with SE Asia. The main reason I am with IMG is because I was living in Thailand for most of the year.
The only time I've needed to file anything though was in the US and they handled it well.

American Alpine Club has insurance benefits for the rescue end of climbing accidents. I would contact them directly and see if they have someone they recommend.
After the cost of rescue, hospital and such, my regular insurance covers everything. You should talk with your insurance agent and see what the policy you already ahve covers.

i personally use medibank as my travel insurance. i actually signed up online, and it has been very convenient to me. i am always away for trips and adventures like rock climbing, so it really suits me well.

How about just normal health insurance with a low deductable and high coinsurance? Every policy I have been looking into lately offers emergency coverage worldwide and most of the policies I have been looking at do not exclude rock climbing.
Also be careful buying travel insurance. Most policies only offer $10k - $50k in coverage. That is pocket change compared to what a serious injury could cost. If you take a big zippering trad whipper and break your back and both legs, your bill could easily run you $200,000. Just a complex compound fracture of the leg can cost $30,000, if not more. The hospital where my GF works at charges $10,000 just for the first 24 hours for treatment in an ICU. And that does not cover surgeries, rescue, ect.
