i'm moving to Custer, SD next month, and i'm wondering a couple things: 1. is there ice? 2. are there people climbing it? 3. can i go with you if you are? i'm a safe climber/belayer with multi-pitch experience, though i don't lead ice (yet). looking to follow anyone who is safe and fun! (safe being a relative term... it is ice climbing after all) thanks, m.b.

there is a little bit of ice, though it may be gone by march. near custer, palmer creek on the north side of harney and honeybear near sylvan lake are your options. there is more in spearfish canyon. everything that exists is in the mountainproject.com routes database. i moved away awhile ago so no leads on partners, but go in to granite sports in hill city and you should be able to find someone.
