I'm spending two weeks in Estes Park this June. It's mostly a bouldering trip, but i'd like to bring my rope and draws if the routes are good. Can anyone make recommendations for good sport climbing areas near/in Estes Park/RMNP? The vast majority of what i'm seeing online are trad lines, but I'm quite certain I've seen/read about people climbing bolted routes in the Park... Right? Any recommendations for a good guidebook to bring (either sport or bouldering) would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

The Estes Park Valley guide has a lot of good info on the Monastery (which I haven't been to). In the park itself, can't speak for anything that didn't make it into the magazines.

The monastery and Mary's Bust. Look them up on Mountain Project. No guide for Mary's Bust yet, but multipitch sport right off the road is fun. http://www.mountainproject.com/v/colorado/estes_park_valley/big_thompson_canyon/106811702 http://www.mountainproject.com/v/colorado/estes_park_valley/big_thompson_canyon/105744343

That one has the Monastery. The Rossiter guide does not.

That one (Gillett), is probably the best guide for the area. It also has Mary's Bust, but it was published before many new routes went up in the last few years. The best info for MB is on Mountain Project. The quality of the routes there is much higher than what Gillett gives it credit for. MB is a 5min hike off the road, in contrast to the 45 hike to the Monastery, which is "uphill both coming and going" (once you've done it you'll know what I mean). But the Monastery is definitely worth the trek, with everything from 5.6 to 5.13d. The other place you should check out is Jurassic Park - Lily Lake. http://mountainproject.com/...ributaries/105744337 It's a very picturesque setting, with views of Lily Lake and Longs Peak while on the routes, and a very pleasant 15-20min hike. There's not much hard climbing (2 low 5.12s, 3 low 5.11s), but definitely worth a day out of your trip. Andrology (5.12a) is perhaps my favorite single pitch route. BTW, Jurassic Park is where you'll find Edge of Time (5.9) which is featured on the cover of the Gillett guide. Enjoy.

Yes, though again MP has more complete information including a good bird's-eye-view map showing most of the routes. It also has this link to a google map I created: http://maps.google.com/...61,0.022745&z=16 BTW, Mary's Bust also has some excellent multi-pitch sport routes, in the 5.10/11 range. Brown Palace is very nice.

You should check in to Clear Creek Canyon, or Boulder Canyon there is A TON of awsome routes around there.
