Couldn't see the trailer, but Atlas Shrugged had very little to do with putting "truth in the hands of the people", unless by people you mean the minorities enslaved by the will of the majority.

I find it hard to understand why people would get their philosophical views from a novel. Kinda like getting your religious beliefs from the Da Vinci Code. Maybe climate change denialists are just a bit too much into State of Fear? Edited to add: Just remembered the biggest religions on the planet are based on fiction books too. Perhaps intellectuals should stop writing dissertations and publishing papers on journals and start writing entertaining stories?

Thanks for the thread , I never read the book , but will see the movie. As for the french and russians. Its so true. you must have knew.

Fantastic. Now the people can be bored to tears by Ayn Rand's maniacal babbling, even if they don't read so good.

It's funny that half of those pundits worshipping at the feet of Ayn Rand have no fucking clue about how to pronounce her name.

It wasn't the subject matter that made me not want to see it, it was just that it looked like a gawd awful movie.

I clicked on your link. The critics indeed give it 5%... one of the lowest ratings I have ever seen. However, the audience rating (relatively new on RT) gave it an 85%! The biggest disparity I have ever seen. I'm going to draw the conclusion that the people who saw it are big Rand fans and would have liked it even if it is a piece of shit, which the critics seem to think it is.

Atlas Shrugged and the Fountainhead always sit on top of those user-voted 'best books of the world/20th century/west/etc' lists. It's the exact same phenomenon.

Did you really expect anything different from the hollywood liberal elite? Those commies are the reason a decent budget could never be raised and this American classic didn't get the treatment it deserved. Haters gonna hate...

In reply to: But then my editor asked me to look into the dating website the Atlasphere, on which Randians can search for their soul mate among fellow objectivists.

When a libertarian wankfest loses even Megan McArdle, you know it must stink: Atlas Winced.
