May be coming Spokane way this summer. I have the Central Washington rock guide, but wondering where the majority of the bouldering at Banks Lake is located. What are the best areas around Spokane to take akid to bouldering or sport routes. he may or may not climb just not dodgey approaches!

There is also an Inland Northwest guide by Marty Bland that more specifically covers the Spokane area (Deep Creek, Post Falls, Laclede, etc). Banks Lake is likely to be quite hot in summer. Bland's guide includes Banks Lake also (but not as well as the Central Washington guide by Rick La Belle). Bland mentions the area around Gibralter Rocks as a good place to start a bouldering tour.

I know Banks Lake very well. There is no one area of bouldering that is concentrated. It's rather scattered. It's a far better sport climbing area, IMO. As far as kids go, again, there is little bouldering close to parking areas that is worth driving hours for. Tum Tum, near Spokane, is eastern WA's premier bouldering area, otherwise head to Leavenworth.

No guide for Tum Tum...yet. Tum Tum is northwest of Spokane about 30 minutes along Long Lake aka Lake Spokane. It's right off the road up in the hills...you can't miss the granite rock all over. You park at a dirt parking lot a few miles northwest of the town of Tum Tum. There are a few descent sport/trad routes also. It's not little kid friendly....lotta hiking and sharp rocks and ledges, etc.. Also McClellan just across the lake has some great bouldering too, similar to Tum Tum, but a bit more accessible along with a plethora of sport routes ranging in difficulty. There is a topo and much info on routes on this website under Eastern Washington area.
