I just placed my order for the 8th Edition of Freedom of the Hills. Anyone get a read on it yet?

Years ago, well "read" is a relative term. Scan for information that I needed. Skipped all the alpine stuff, but studied the safety, situations, etc.

At least for the rock climbing chapters, they do their best to remain a constant five years out of date. Jay

Not perfect but certainly one of the better resources out there.

It covers enough of the basics to be useful.

My 1st Edition copy of FOTH. It sits next to my superb 1st Edition of Bjornstad's Desert Rock. Both are fun to read for historical points if anything. d.

I know some folks who wrote updates for some sections in this one and they are pretty current, should be good improvements/updates. I think it was the 6th edition that I read cover to cover, practicing all my knots, tying my first aiders, etc. Great resource to get started and occasionally review!

Jay Don't worry - I'm sure by the next edition they will include advice on how to be an Internet spray lord.
