i'm gonna be in harrisonburg area this month for vacation and would like to check out hidden rocks. i'll have a couple first timers with me. what is required for setting on top ropes on some of the easier graded routes? will i need pro or are there trees or bolted anchors? any info would be greatly appreciated!

For a 3 of the popular routes (.5 .7 and a .9), they have the wide Metolius bolt anchors - all you need is webbing/static rope, something to protect over the edge and some lockers. On others, you can usually sling a tree, though on some we've found it nice to have a couple cams and nuts. however, depending upon how many routes you wanted to do, you could easily get by without the pro. For some of the routes it helps if the webbing static is 30+'. Some routes you can get by with less. |
