I have heard that there are cheaper cabin rentals in the area? Anybody have any suggestions for lodging? Any areas/rentals that are dog friendly?

If you mean 'climbing areas' that are friendly for dogs at the Bald... I can't think of any areas that are particularly bad for leaving your dog at the bottom...but that is of course assuming your dog is well behaved. I will say that last year my wife and I took our dogs up to the Bald around this same time of the year. Both our dogs (a yellow lab and shi-tzu) and ourselves included had difficult times negotiating some steep uphill sections through the leaves that were literally knee deep in some spots.

I am wondering if anyone has rented a cabin or camped near there at an area that is dog friendly. The climbing areas are all dog friendly right?

Check out www.creeksidecamping.com. We have stayed there on several occasions, but mostly primitive camping. I know they have cabins near the shower facility.

If you want to go really cheap, you can camp in the back of your car at Coffee Crumbles. The owners are completely cool with this, and its even in the bouldering guide book. Its a coffee house right across the street from the entrance to Chimney Rock. Awesome breakfast and coffee in the morning as well. There is a little bit of grass if you want to bust out a tent, but definitely not a cabin.
