I found a Black Diamond double stem camalot for sale $35.... does any one know any thing about them? how do they compare to the current camalot? I looked all over the internet and found nothing about them. The Cam has never taken a fall and used only a dozen times??? (I'm thinking it's a bad idea to buy cams over the internet... but the price sounds ok)

they are a little squirrely to use because the trigger pull moves all over. it is not the same as the older small camalots sz .5 and .75 double stems because they have a plastic trigger pull that is guided by the the cable stems. another difference is the cams are not as wide (fat) as the newer camalots. they do however work and hold falls. i would say $35.00 is an average used price for a larger cam (sz 3 and up) if it is smaller you might find one for less. ( by the way keep me in mind if you find an older double stem 3.5 i need one to complete my set and i am anal about keeping them all double stemmed which is why i didnt pick up a single stem cam even though it works better.

Thanks for the info... the ones i was looking at for sale only have #3, and #4 camalot. I'm looking at buying the #4... but i'm going to put some more thought into it. I'm all about all the new BD cams so I most likly won't get it. ~Joe

I have a double stem #4. It is okay trigger wise (you can get 2 fingers in it and it is still squirrely) but the cool thing is that you can put some 2mm cord through the trigger down through the thumb bar and tie a bite in the end. This will allow you to put a nut tool on it and push with your thumb and get it out should it be buried. I bought mine from a SAR buddy for $30. $35 is close so I would say go for it. By the time you are placing that, you should have a good knee jam or heel-toe so you should be able to screw with it a little. TRADitionally yours, Addiroids (not a sport climber - must post!)

My buddy has some of the old double stem camalots, and I think I would rather buy his OLD and used ones then by the new ones at this point.. No, not just because I'm cheap. Becuase the action is so smooth, and I really am partial to the rigidness of double stem cams. Although, the trigger on the single stem camalots are pretty nice, the U-stems are sweet. My buddy just bought the wires and rewired his U-stem camalots last week. [ This Message was edited by: dustinap on 2001-11-19 12:42 ]
