I am new to climbing in the area and have a question regarding climbing after it has rained. How long after it rains does one have to wait before it is safe to climb in areas like Bishops peak? i know in some areas the rock becomes substantially weaker after it becomes wet, is that the case here? Thank you for your help.

Yes. Sandstone is/can be very soft rock. Rain makes it susceptible to damage of hand/foot holds or even bolt failure. Wait at least one day for each day of rain for it to dry. If the ground/trail around the rock is still damp, you can bet the rock is still wet, even if the outer layer appears completely dry. Good on you to ask before climbing on it.

To answer your question Jcedermaz, I've found that some climbs around here are good to go the following day if it's sunny, but most will take 2 days of sun to be really nice. Even after that, when it rains hard some of the cracks on P-Wall and Cracked Wall can seep for what seems like weeks. The boulders are usually good next day / 2 days after, but the base is usually super muddy. Are you thinking about any specific climbs?

I was planning on climbing P-wall to get some beginner friendly multi pitch experience under my belt. however if it "Seeps" for weeks i might have to find something else. Do you have any suggestions for Easy(Preferably 5.7-5.9) multipitch sport climbs that are on bishops or in the surrounding areas?

With how the rain has been yesterday and today, I expect everything should be great by the end of the week and especially the weekend. I'm guessing you're looking for multipitch trad since you're wanting to do Easy routes on P-Wall. P-Crack and the like should be fine. I'll send you a PM with more info.

check out the two tecate challence at bishop peak. 9 pitches of mostly sport climbing in the 5.6-5.9 level. starts at mouse maze 5.9 on cracked wall an ends with flakes to fresno 5.8 trad at the summit. centralcoastclimbing.com has the topos and beta for all the pitches. good, easy practice for working out your systems for multipitching.
