Suffice it to say that a very experienced climber somehow thought they were on a secure line that was not secure. When they went to put their weight on the line they fell fifty feet to the ground.

It sounds like it - yet again - was an accident where the climber expected to be lowered, but actually was off belay.

I disagree. The reporting you quoted is NOT very technical. In context it seems the reporter was simply saying they either "fell" or otherwise weighted the top-rope for a rest.

Though I could have missed something.
