TOTTORI (Kyodo) A South Korean student was rescued Thursday from near the top of Mount Daisen in Tottori Prefecture after getting caught in a snowstorm, police said.
Chang Yun Jong, a 27-year-old Hiroshima University graduate student, was rescued about 150 meters below the summit of the 1,729-meter mountain at about 7:15 a.m. after he called for help on his cell phone at around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said Chang's life was not in danger, although he appeared exhausted.

Chang had told a friend that he was climbing the mountain alone on a day trip, police said.

He is a member of a mountain-climbing club in Hiroshima Prefecture and has climbed Mount Daisen before, they said.
