I dont have a place in Maryland for you but right across the water in Alexandria VA we have Sport Rock. I climb there normally twice a week, not a bad place at all.

Good luck

There aren't a lot of sport climbs in MD, but there are some bolted lines out there. The old quarry at Birdsboro, PA is the nearest destination with any concentration of sport routes. Check out http://www.facebook.com/groups/220082188004527/ to network with local climbers. -Carl

Depends on where you are. I haven't been myself, but I believe it is ~2 hrs from the Baltimore area.

You are welcome! If I can google anything else for you, cause I have that thing pretty much dialed in now - just speak up. Click this link below and go from here. We were all idiots when we were born and are all still struggling to make it past that. Good luck!

It's already been posted but Earth Treks rockville is probably the best indoor climbing place in maryland, and theyre expanding it within the next 6 months or so.

It's got 12m walls and every route has a top rope, and most have fixed quickdraws for sport climbing.

The closest area with a small but decent selection of sport leads is Virginia's Elizabeth Furnace, about 1.2 hours away from Montgomery County. It's a good spot for beginners, with easy toprope access and extremely modeate leads (5.6-5.10+)
Forgive the presumptousness, but from your profile it looks like you are very new to climbing. Sport leads below 5.10 are fairly rare in this region (MD, VA, and WV), and moderate leads tend to be both runout and with lots of bad fall potential (ledges, choss, etc).
Take advantage of your proximity to the Earth Treks facility (are you near Columbia, Timonium, or Rockville?). You can practice leading by borrowing a dynamic rope and clipping in with it while being backed up on toprope. If you are already comfortable with the mechanics of leading, take a lead certification test and crank indoors all winter while waiting for climbing season to start again.

Thanks! I'm 45 minutes away from Timonium. I have three C4 cams, 12 stoppers, and a pink tricam. Iv'e done more routes and such then my climbing log says though. I never done sport though so that's why I'm interested in finding a spot.
