I am looking to run a Zip line across a river without trees around and I would like to know if I can use Bolts to support it. My idea is to use 3/8 SS (edit - SS Cable) from very large boulders attached to two eyes through bolt hangers on each side.
The excursion will not take place until next year in Northern CA. around Sep. so there will be plenty of time to plan and prepare.
I need ideas and safety is my number one concern.
Would this be safe and would the bolts support up to 250Lbs of equipment or Person with the stress of a Zip line?
All information would be very well accepted. Thanks.

without sheering off.
Sorry I forgot to add Cable after the 3/8 SS.
The Line will be 75ft max from one side to the other.
I'll post pictures of the area once I find them on my spare drive and condense them.
But it is hard rockface boulders.
I've searched the internet for technical information but I cannot find the stats that I need.
Tree to Tree is all I can find, but not using rock for a Zip-line.
The boulders on the river are hard and not sandy.

The organisation in the US which writes the standards for zip lines is http://www.prcainfo.org/.
Usually the cables have to be 6500kg or 14,000lbs breaking load and the anchors need a working load to match so no climbing gear is suitable. We´ve made highline anchors to the same spec and use 3 X 10,000kg anchors to get the working load.
Commercial zip lines in most countries require 2 wires independently anchored, one to slide and a safety. The strength calculations should take into account the weight of a rescuer.

What is the difference in elevation between the start / finish location??
Is it staying up on for a long duration or a weekend blast??

75 feet... that hardly seem far enough to be worth the effort.
But getting back you your question. A fully tensioned zip will be a bit much for standard climbing bolts.

Hi Binrat, the Elevation will be no more than 10ft. There is no other way across the river without a 1/2 mile hike.

Yes, that was my main concern. I figured that posting here
would lead me in a safe direction, or to extract some ideas.
I was also considering anchoring a boulder then wrapping the cable around it and just use the bolts to keep it from slipping on the other side.

Almost sounds like you're wanting a Tyrolean traverse instead of a zip line.

Or a highline. Depending on the height off of the water, that will determine what setup will happen.
Max height will be around 10-15ft above the water. It's just to
get across the river with equipment.
I'm to old to hang from 100ft.

If you're set on doing a zip line than Im probably not going to be much help but with moving gear...? I would go out and by a book on high angle rope rescue, you can find some cheap used ones at text book stores or on amazon, the systems are tested and work great, some are a little more complex, but just break it down in steps, i couldn't find a website that would allow the information to be disclosed without some kind of payment but nothings to stop you from searching for yourself.
