My brother and I have some plans for the three day weekend, but would like to get in some climbing at Donner Saturday morning. We wanted to head up this Friday in the evening so we can get out and climb early on Saturady, but..... with it being a holiday weekend I cannot find a single available campsite for Friday night anywhere in the Donner/North Lake Tahoe area. If anyone is going to be up therefor the weekend and would be willing to share a campsite, or even just has a backyard we could roll out our sleeping bags in it would be awesome. We would pay for the campsite for the night and be pretty low key, rolling in at about 8pm and packing up to get out and climb about 6am. PM me if anyone can help out, thanks.

There is BLM land near Donner Lake where you can camp for free. Not sure exactly how far up the road, but if you aren't on it, a ranger will wake you up at 3:30 a.m. and let you know you need to move your truck. I love how my taxes are spent sometimes. Best of luck. My backyard is kinda too far for ya, sorry.

What is the closest campsite to donner? Is the RV park in Soda springs the closest. I would love to find a trail that goes to donner summit from a campsite. I need to take my guys out for some training and would be willing to have them move up to 12 miles on a trail. I'm guessing it is against the law to sleep around the climbing areas over night.

Arineod, the closest legal, pay camp site to Donner summit climbing area is the Donner memorial state park campground. It's right at the base of the lake and there are a bunch of hiking trails that leave from the campground. There are also a few forest service campgrounds on route 89. All of these can be reserved online through the respective reservation services.
