Dude, this site has a strict "don't talk about anything relevant" policy. I thought you knew?

As for the adidas buy-out, I really don't care, don't see it necessarily being any worse for 5.10 than BD's going public was bad for them.

Anyone else surprised at the price ? 25M seems pretty low nowadays. Hopefully they have a big performance based earnout.

yea i didn't wanna just state the obvious to people. there are a select few who actually give a crap. i'm just concerned about the QA that's going to inevitably follow. i've never found a pair of adidas in my size, 14, anyway and 5.10 is the only shoe company i know of that makes them in my size. yea there's a couple things i would change regarding the shoes that they do carry... but COME ON!!!! Adidas? i see a downward spiral with this one Pirate

This really isn't an elephant in the room. It is just not that interesting.

Five Ten is pretty much all I wear and I'm not worried.

It could actually work out for the better. These last few years they have been expanding and diversifying their shoe line, while their presence in shops has steadily declined. Thats not exactly an ideal situation for a relatively expensive product that requires a precise fit. I'm hoping that their affiliation with Adidas will get their shoes back on the shelves.

well this is rather big, but one thing I can say that should ease anyone's mind that is at worry: when have you bought a German product that wasn't freaking great? Beer, cars, firearms, camping gear, hell you name it!

I wear mostly 5.10 shoes. Have for a long time. And I think this will affect my climbing precisely zero percent. It wasn't the elephant in the room. It just isn't all that important.

I don't wear fiveten shoes, so it still won't really effect me, but I do fear that their climbing shoes will soon start being made in China in stead of the good ol' USofA.

I think this could have any effect. The shoes could get better with the higher funding, they could take risks and produce more interesting shoes with their extra financial security etc. etc.

Adidas may just leave them to do their own thing.

Adidas could turn 5.10 into rebok climbing shoes 2.0 and they could turn into utter shit.

I am hoping for the first one. Still tempted to buy a couple pairs of Anasazis just in case though...

point well taken. Cool

i'm just not into seeing a bunch of signature shoes, signature shirts or other garbage. getting sucked into a large company just sets off alarm bells in my head. same thing struck Prana, BD and anybody else who went big like that. & i damn sure don't wanna see 6 months down the road, some 300 lb fatty trading in their North Face jacket for the "FASHIONABLE" Five Ten ... WHATEVER. you want fashion, go buy some of the tactical 5.11 crap. Mad

So you're worried it won't be as cool to pimp Five Ten gear once the civilians start wearing it?

Ok...*YAWN*...grievance noted.

I don't know. I've worn Sportiva Mythos ever since they came out many years ago. One buys the Mythos tight, and they stretch nicely. I wear 40.5 size. The last pair I bought a few months ago were seriously mis-sized. When they stretched out after wearing them a few times, the L shoe was at least half a size bigger than 40.5 and the R shoe, about 1.5 sizes bigger. I plan on taking them back to the retailer.

Yeah, but Prana and BD are still essentially the same from it. BD especially has changed virtually not at all.

I think they've been manufacturing them in China (or Vietnam), anyway.

According to FiveTen, all their manufacturing is in the US.

Climbing shoes only, and those just recently moved back from Korea (uppers). Bike and outdoor action shoes are made in China.

A friend of mine still has his reebok climbing shoes, and still swears by them. Reebok failed as a climbing shoe company because climbers everywhere said "pfft, aren't they that basketball shoe company?" and never bought any.
