Hello, We are trying to plan a trip to Hueco Tanks in next december. Is the Hueco Rock Ranch still open? Because they don't answer to emails, and the phone number doesn't work. Have you heard about a house to rent near Hueco Tanks? If there is no space left for reservation for North Mountain, can we count on commercial tours to climb, or can commercial tours be full as well? Thanks a lot for your answers! Cheers!

I never had trouble getting walk-in spots at North Mountain. You'll have to get there early, though.

For December you will be fine. Understand its still 90 degree's + in El Paso right now so the hordes are still waiting for a few more degree's to drop before they all head south for the winter. A couple of the local guides who own land around the ranch are already there but they don't answer the Ranch phone. Every day there are 10 walk-in spots available for North mtn, you just have to be the first in line to get them. As those people leave more spots open up, and after noon they ignore the reservations and they fill the park with whoever is in line. Commercial tours are your best bet, just line up a guide and you should have no issue's at all. You can reserve a guide for a few more dollars if your really paranoid. Tons of climbers head down every year never knowing what to expect, I have never heard of the case of anyone getting down there then not getting into the park after they made all efforts to do so.

Rock Ranch is for sale. I've too tried contact them. Some say they will be open around Thanksgiving, but several of my friends who are guides out there, say its permanently closed. If you call the park, you should be able to schedule a volunteer back country tours for $1.00. Now for the professional tours, you can always book them in advance.

Is it for sale again? I know Rob sold it over a year ago and I had not heard anything about it being sold again. I was there a few months back and they were still working hard making lots of improvements on the place. The first volunteer tour goes out at 9, if it doesn't go out, then none of the later ones go out. I've always been able to get on the 9:00 tour whenever I've wanted to go backcountry

From one of my friends who is a professional guide, he told me that they went bankrupt. One of my friends who is a volunteer guide he said that the ranch had to close. With those kind of statements it doesn't sound good.

The Hueco Rock Ranch is open for business. The LAN phone line isn't on but we have full services to campers and climbers. The campground and the Barn are fully functional, rates are the same as last year at 7$/night 20/person for tours to the backcountry. Despite whatever rumors you may have heard the Hueco Rock Ranch is open. For specific questions regarding reservations and tours please use info@huecorockranch.com for the primary email. Also Thanksgiving will be held at the Ranch so if you've been waiting to know if it was gonna happen, now you know. oh yeah, the weather is great, the rock is even better.

I booked a room at the Ranch for early December. Everything seemed open to me.

Wow that's good to know. I wonder who bought it. Or are they just leasing it?

personal experience helped form my attitude. it isn't surprising that you wouldn't think to address the elitist, rude attitudes by yourself and your staff, but instead blame the customer.

I might do the tanksgiving thing, its sorted a tradition. I had already made arrangements back in September when I heard about the ranch, but I can always hang out at the bonfires.
