Just wondering how do you get recognized to get a sponsor for rock climbing...where to start?

It would definately help out to have one.

1-become a good climber
2- have the right connection in the right dept
3-or do a good multi-BJ

I keep seen a lot of climbers choosing #3 these days

That "climbing gym" in the Castro I gave you directions to, Majid ... uh, it wasn't actually a climbing gym.

I would think that the following would be prerequisite

A) you need to be climbing seriously hard routes
B) put up some FA’s on a few hard routes
C) your name is already well known in the climbing world
D) Your FA’s are well publicised
E) you have a pretty face that’s marketable
F) have won a major comp or two

well first off... you need to be a badass with an attitude. you need to find projects no one will ever get on, send them and grade them in the 13+ range every now and then throw in a 14a. this will impress your sponsors but you'll be under the radar enough that no one will repeat you routes and down grade them to 12a. next, show up at other areas and dog up the harder routes there and claim that you are "working" them, then back at the campground proclaim how you were "so close to the send today". finally have a photographer take pictures of you on a hard route you cant do... someone like dan brayack should do, then that image will one day show up in a guidebook or horst training book. now you have a "published photo" to show off to your sponsors. finally. get a ticket to salt lake baby, you're off to the big show. at the summer or show you can mingle with the thousands of other "sponsored" climbers and talk about you back home test piece that hasnt seen a second ascent. you can also show off your resume to other companies, and beg for more free gear cause you are such a badass. welcome to the land of being a "sponsored athlete" now when you climb around mere mortals, you can show off all of your fancy stuff.

FFS. I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

To the OP: As an alternative to sucking cock by the foot for handouts, might I suggest the oft-overlooked approach to scoring gear: GET A FUCKING JOB

The way you get sponsored is... have a beat street attitude. Treat a comp like a bboy cypher. Head hunt for ppl like Graham, Sharma, Robinson, Woods, Miley Cyrus, Lisa Rands, etc... Do a route in front of them and even if you don't send, come down, get some chalk from your bag, palm it, then blow it all to their faces and say "YOU JUST GOT SMOKED, NIGGA, STRAIGHT STREET..." Then do a coin drop to halo's to a drill head spin and top rock outta the comp.

Alright a lot of people are saying that you need to be really good to be sponsored but does consistency count for anything as well? I am in Youth A for the ABS clinging season and I have been consistently getting second place in every single competition I have been to.

I also know a lot of people that could help out in acquiring a sponsorship from companies such as evolv, Five 10, and the like.

In the past 180 days, as the distributor of a few climbing compnaies, I have received over 200 emails asking for sponsorship. About half of the emails had climbing resumes.

The only one who received anything from me had what I considered a cool project in East Java. I doubt the route will be very hard, but I think the project will get some nice publicity for the lines I represent. They received some gear and about 200 USD towards the project. They have to mention they were sponsored by my business in any interview they do when they complete the project.
