More power to you that you can actually read that. I find Andrew Bisharat's writing to be insufferable. I'm sure there must be funny stuff in there, but I didn't get that far.

I've always enjoyed AB's column. He's equally derogatory toward most climber groups. Tickles my sense of humor, at least.

"Alpinism, like golf, is a game for players, not winners."

I beg to differ. If you've seen ANY of the new school alpine first ascents, it's often on high-grade ice and 5.10-5.13 drytooling. Let's see YOU do that at 15,000 feet! As a 5.12 climber myself, I don't hold for the derogatory attitude some climbers enjoy imposing on other disciplines. Yeah, I boulder, climb sport, climb trad, and climb ice and each discipline has it's diehards, but as an all-arounder I've learned mostly just to enjoy the vertical game no matter what the medium.

I practice the various disciplines too, that's what makes some of the derogatory comments so funny to me.

As for new Alpine routes, completely agree with your comment. High end of sure.

I like to make fun of the discipline of climbers who spray about their accomplishments on forums.
