I thought I'd let those of you know who posted words of encouragement to me that I'm taking your advice & getting back out there. I still have my moments of wallowing in misery, but I'm making an effort. I'm going to the gym next week and will be on the hunt for new partners, or will just boulder for awhile. I'm excited! ember

Great thing about bouldering while you look for partners is that it will make you strong. Good luck to you!

I'm excited! ember Good luck! Enjoy bouldering and meeting new people. You might or might not meet partners for roped climbing while bouldering -- a lot of people who boulder in a gym prefer to do just that, and never rope up. But it is a good start. If the gym has a message board, post a looking-for-partners note there. And talk to people working the desk. I don't know what kind of a gym you have available, but if the gym is a dedicated climbing gym, and not a part of a larger athletic facility, it is likely that people who work at the gym are climbers and know a lot of people who frequent the gym. Letting them know that you are looking for a partner might help, because they might know other people who are in your situation, and could point you in the right direction. Don't rush things, and don't get discouraged. Everything will happen in good time.

Well I went to the gym. It's tiny, but challenging. it was embarrassing how quick I got tired and how far out of climbing shape I am! But it was fun. And there were 2 guys there who put up a lot of the routes where I climbed this summer. I felt so honored to hang out with/be belayed by them. I'm going back in a couple days. Fun! ember

Haha, I guess that did sound kind of lame. I just started climbing again this summer and climbed lots of the routes these guys put up and I appreciated that they spent time helping me out. I'm not a climbing groupie...really! ember

Nice work! Keep it up. Not that you need reminding, but make sure you keep looking for just friends and climbing partners. Just like you should be able to pick up on when your partners are trying to flirt with you, they should be able to pick up on when you're trying to flirt with them. Make climbing your first priority and let the chips fall where they may.

thanks petsfed. But it's not about that for me at all. Just looking to become a better climber and possibly meet future partners. I appreciate watching anyone who climbs well...guy, girl, or mountain goat. My last climbing partner/romantic partner combination didn't work out so well. Probably not going to combine the two next time. ember
