Hey my name is Nate Butcher and I will be in Costa Rica from December 19 through the end of the month this year (2011). Ive been climbing in the Red River Gorge for 2 years, climb 5.11 and a confident belayer. My girlfriend is coming too who also climbs and we are looking for some good crags/destinations. I dont know if we'll find anything comperable to the extreemly high density of climbing that is in the Red but anything will do. We're staying in the central Pacific cost region but I'm willing to travel, also willing to bring a 70m rope and enough draws. So ya! anyone looking to do some climbing around christmas or any tips on locations please reply!

Unfortunately, not a lot around there from what I hear. I will be in Puerta Viejo from Dec23rd->January1st with my girlfriend, and bringing my shoes and chalk just in case I find some boulders, but people have told me not to expect much.

There is great climbing in CR. Best place to go is probably Cachi, outside of Catago. They are on Facebook, just search "Escalada Cachí" 30+ routes, all on besalt, some as high as 30 meters, 5.8 to 5.13 If you are in or around San Jose, there is also some great climbing in the Santa Ana area, close to Forum. There is also some amazing bouldering in Cerro de la Muerte and in Providencia, though these locations are a little more remote. But if you have a car (4x4) and are looking for adventure off the beaten path (definitely not laying on a beach) then this is the place to go. best of luck.
