I just moved to Colorado, will my gear suffer any damage from being stored in my trunk all winter? I don't really have room to put it anywhere else.

that was the first thing that came to my mind; wet gear sitting in a trunk all winter, then a february chinook blows in; mold, mildew and fungus starts to grow on your gear....i dont know how that would damage your gear but it sure looks like shit

Dosen't have to be a spare battery. Ive owned two cars that had their batteries in the trunk. The 87 BMW 325is was designed and built by the factory that way.
I consulted knowlegable poelpe about it back then and they said if there were no contact/leakage there would be no problem. Always bothered me and I used rope bags to minimize any chance of contact or exposure. I had that car for over ten years and there was never any sign of corrosion on anything. Always surprised me, but apparently in that car it was not a problem.
My (climbing) gym gear lives in the trunk of my car full time.
