Just finished forging a North Wall Hammer. Took about 5 hours; including carving the handle.

Nice! What type of steel did you forge it from? What type of forge, coke or gas fired?

Coal Forge. Not quite sure of the type of steel. In it's previous life it was a rod from a hydraulic ram. I've made a hammer from it before. Very stout steel.

Nice!

I'm bringing it on the Whitney Mountaineers route this weekend for a trial run.

Love it. Nice work!

I still use my Chouinard Alpine Hammer too, but I use it for digging dirt and vines out of cracks.

Hammer worked great! I'm very pleased with it. Used it for setting a piton, down climbing in low dagger position, and cleaning cracks.

My partner at one point tied a quick swami. And I set a piton.

Does that count?Smile

Not a climbing tool, but figured I'd ad it anyway for fun...
