I've been out here in Red Rocks for a few months and have been doing a lot of write ups and also shooting a lot of photos. I've got a bunch of posts on my blog covering sport, bouldering, multi-pitch and trad. If you're looking for some info on the areas or just want to see some nice photos and stories take a look.

Very Nice.

Did Chris make it to the top of the waterfall? That is an old Henry Barber solo. Ballsy route imo.

I climbed a recently bolted sport route out semi-near keyhole on smooth white granite. Did you fella's put that up?

Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.

Nice work, Matt. Reminds me why Red Rocks used to be my favorite climbing area (after Devil's Lake, of course.)

Hi there, I looked at your blog. Your photos are great! My friend and I are thinking about a climbing trip to Red Rocks this spring/summer, and I was wondering if this is a good area for sport climbing? We don't have a lot of trad experience or gear; we mostly climb sport routes up to 5.10. Thank you for any advice you may have!

Affirmative, they are a lot of Sports climbing routes , which are in Red Rocks in a place called Calico basin. You can reach the area if you enter the Red Rock "preserve" follow the main road and park at the second parking on the right and then it is a couple of minutes of hike. There are other spots further along the road. I have sports climb in RR only once , but I would think there are dozens and dozens of routes.

calico basin is actually outside the park. The first three pullouts (parking areas) in the park are the sport areas.

Thanks for taking a look. You'll be excited to know that there is a lot of sport climbing out here in Red Rocks. The most popular and concentrated sport climbing will be in the first three pull-outs of the 13-mile loop. (Crags such as, Panty Wall, Dog Wall, The Gallery, Sweet Pain Wall, The Balck Corridor, The Wake Up Wall are just a few that you will enjoy.) As mentioned previously, Calico Basin is also a good destination for sport climbing (Cannibal Crag, Cannabis Crag, Sunny and Steep) but isn't as concentrated as the first three pullouts. All good. Take a look through the Jerry Handren guide and you will find plenty of sport routes.

Chris didn't go all the way up the waterfall, probably only 15-20 feet up then it appeared to get a little more slick. We haven't established any new lines in Keyhole, but I do know there is a handful of bolted lines in the immediate area. I believe there is a guidebook completed, but not yet in publication, so if interested keep an eye out for that.
