So it's finally getting cold here in the south and I'm looking for a good canister stove to take into the boulder fields. One of my friends swears by his Zip and highly recommends it but he is a backpacker and weight is a big deal to him. However the Zip is the one I have the most interest in mainly because of the $70 price tag.
If anyone has any experience with the Flash or the Sol I would like to get your take on them. Or any other canister stove that you may feel is better.
And remember I'm in the south so it never actually gets "cold" here.

The three of them are almost identical.
The Sol and the Zip each hold .8 liters while the Flash holds 1 liter.
The Flash and Zip are identical except for the size.
The Zip and the Sol are identical except the Sol is titanium, and twice the price. Which saves a whopping 4oz. Which really doesn't matter, though it is impressive that its actually 40 percent lighter.
Sounds like for you the Zip is the best bet.

That isn't really correct. The SOL has one MAJOR difference: it has a built-in pressure regulator, which will make it work more consistently in the cold. I haven't used it, so I can't tell you how well it works, but I know that getting the non regulated version to work well in the cold (read: around and below freezing) requires some trickery.

Didn't even realize that. I've never had issues using mine in the cold, though I don't think I've ever used it below 35, maybe 30. I do remember my buddy melting snow with his in the mid to high teens. It seemed to be working just fine, though I wasn't really paying attention.
The regulator makes perfect sense for cold performance as long as the temps are high enough to get enough pressure out of the canister.

Thanks for the input. Generally it never gets below 25 here so I don't think the regulator will be that big of a deal not to have. It would be nice but not for the $50 jump in price.

That is interesting about the Sol. My JB is so old and busted up I think I'll finally have to replace it. I wish they just sold the base alone!
