Beanies indoors?

I would like to understand why some people wear beanies....

There are a number of 'boulderers' at my local gym who don't where shirts and traverse around the gym breathing extremely loud. The volume roughly correlates to the number and hotness of the females present.

The loud breathing I equate to standard douchbaggery.... What is the origin of this beanie radness? Is there logic behind it or is it just a trend?

And I would like to understand why some dudes wearing beanies in any situation, indoor, outdoor, in bed, at christmas dinner, or whatever, concern you in any way.

The origin is very obvious. Bouldering outside, when it is cold, makes a nice snugly knit hat, a.k.a. beanie, a must. It is a strange phenomenon, but you can actually climb shirtless/in a tank top, and wear a hat, and you will be warmer with a hat than without it.

Some people get so used to having that beanie on their head, that they can't seem to take it off even indoors. Or maybe they just look better in it, because their hair hasn't been washed for many days.

Regardless, you can safely ignore the beanie-wearing guys in the gym, they are not particularly contagious, and rest assured that you don't need to put one on yourself.

Maybe they used to small and shit boulder rooms where there's a lot of chalk in the air, and they dont want that in their hair? The only reasonable answer I could come with.

Same reason baggy pants and later popped collars were everywhere: its trendy, and they think it looks cool.

Yes. And? Unimpressed

I think it has something to do with the way a hot female looks in gym attire and its affect on the male brain.

on the flip side, you know some fugly granola chick is saying the same thing about female boulderers who wear sports bras and spandex yoga capris (and do all that really awesome "stretching" on the floor in front of everyone)

does everyone with a baseball hat play baseball? Do people need Hummers to go to the grocery store?

sounds like you're pretty insecure if what someone wears bothers you so much... sad really.

beanies are designed to keep awesomeness contained. without beanies, the awesomeness would be just too awesome

Unfortunately this beanie indoors thing is spreading beyond bouldering. I recently was at a dental school interview and one of the other applicants wore a beanie indoors with his suit the whole day during the tour and interview.

What grade did you start at that after 10,000 posts and 8 years you're climbing V7?

Are you sure it wasn't a yarmulke or something similar?

Much like folks who walk around with a bluetooth sticking out of their ear, I'm thankful the beanie wearers are kind enough to clearly flag themselves as a person to avoid. Makes it much easier for me to decide who to interact with at the gym.

that should be updated to Gunks .9 (woo! ;) ) and you'll note the sport grade is quite a ways above that. you'll see where my priorities are.

care to post something of yours in double digits there Brahhh surfer duuuude

also i don't wear a beanie indoors climbing. I also don't judge people by what they wear. i could really care less.

I do take offense to V2 gumbies calling out my climbing ability when they can't even get up the birthday party routes.

Ha!

Brah #1: "Brah, that a sweet beanie."
Brah #2: "Brah, that's not a beanie it's a kippah."
Brah #1: "Yeah, brah. If I had a beanie like that I'd call it a keeper too!"

Don't know what technically qualifies a hat as a yarmulke, but this was big enough that it was pulled down to his eyebrows and covered his ears and didn't look like any yarmulke I have ever seen.

You know, I only hear shit spraying in one direction and it really makes me wonder why... I'm gonna guess that the kids in the beanies are having more fun :)

Most of the bodies heat is lost through the feet and head. I wear a beanie when its cold, because its cold, and in the gym when its cold because its not heated and cold. Beanies = Warmth.

All gyms have the "Brahs" you seem to be referring to but not everyone who makes noise climbing is one of them. Maybe these guys crushing and wearing beanies have nothing to to with each other. Do you ever make noise climbing? One day you'll learn how strenuous hard routes are and sometimes you just gotta get loud to get sh*t done.
