Just saw this article and video by DMM testing three ways of extending a nut by girth hitch (lark's foot) with a sling, basket hitch with a sling, or girth hitching another wired nut...

If you don't care to read the article or watch the video the end result is that a basket hitch is generally your best bet.

Useful to know that the wire doesn't cut the sling a low loads.
However the fact that doubling the sling over results in a stronger connection shouldn't be surprising. Hence basket is stronger than girth.

Reminds me of how the Black Diamond C3's and C4's have doubled slings - that and the plastic coating on the wire all play a role in their breaking strength.

What surprised me is that a basket-hitched sling on a wire was stronger than a girth-hitched (actually Strop bend) wire on wire.

From what I saw in the video it appears that the wire cuts the sling where it starts to go around the wire (edge of the sling) as opposed to the double strand that goes into the wire loop (flat of the sling). It's a different cutting action and it doesn't seem to relate directly to slings on cam loops.
