Why? (and why?) Tongue

Devil's Lake has the best rock in the world...

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Not.

Curt

I stand by my claim. There is no better rock anywhere.

I suppose if you like climbing on rock as slick as Formica, it's OK. Personally, I think there are several places named in this very thread with much better rock for climbing.

I've not been there, but I hear that Carderock, Maryland is WAY better than DL.

As for the bucket list, here are my fantasies:

INTERNATIONAL
I've only climbed internationally in Squamish and Potrero, which barely count, so I could just put "everywhere" on my list. But here are a few standouts I'd love to see:
-Gritstone in England
-Cirque of the Unclimbables
-Bugaboos
-Verdon Gorge
-Riglos
-Kalymnos
-Dolomites
-that overhung columnar place in Armenia
-Grampians, Blue Mtns, Arapalles in Aus
-Totem Pole in Tazmania

UNITED STATES:
-Adirondacks
-North Conway
-Laurel Knob
-Needles, CA
-WNSG

I've not been to Carderock either but I looked it up and it's micha-schist and there are only about 100 routes. I seriously doubt whether that rock is better quality than Devil's Lake quartzite.

I know I'm a little late to this party, but I did want to point out that Carderock is good enough for Sharma. I've got a month long road trip planned as soon as the weather warms up!

Hopefully the climbing is as classic as that video.

This summer I am planning on going to one of the world's best places, the Dolomites. If you have seen Cliffhanger, you have seen some of the dolomites because it was filmed there.

You have a chance to reach big walls with easy walks on top of Italy. Great place.

Manny, some of those walks are not that easy and be prepared for cold weather, even in the middle of summer.

You´ve obviously done the scratching-steps-in-the -frozen-snow-with-a-draw and then discovered that after 3 hours of struggling the via-ferratta ladder is encased in 3 feet of ice or been destroyed. At 3,000m. Join the gang!
