No i'm not talking about marriage weakening my will to highball....

When i train hard my ring finger aches where my ring normally sits. I very rarely climb with the ring still on.
I did get stabbed in that finger years ago so i guess my ring could be irritating that old scar tissue.

Any thoughts?

Dont climb with a ring...

I do, however, notice a similar thing. My ring finger on my left hand always has some pulley issues when no other fingers bother me. I guess its unrelated to the ring though, and more related to the fact its my off-hand and I use it a lot for pockets.

Your ring finger is the weakest finger in terms of injury potential. Simple biomechanics.

Ugh, I've learned it's best to never climb with the ring on.

I should say that i work in the outdoors so my very rarely is like scrambling up a 5.6 once a week MAYBE.

Also if i was really a badass i wouldn't have gotten stabbedPirate

Best to research this yourself. I'm no expert, I only know what I've read. My understanding is that relative to the other fingers, the ring finger takes the most force relative to the amount of support it gets.

For example, from One Move Too Many
In reply to:
The index finger is supported by the thumb on its outside, and the middle finger to its inside. Strong fingers on either side support the middle finger. Unfortunately, the ring finger is only supported by the short and relatively weak small finger to its outside. The natural position of the hand when crimping is with an inward rotation, thus placing most of the force on the index and middle finger. However, in two or three finger pockets, or on edges that are held in an open hand position, the ring finger is placed under more strain. The combination of this lack of support, shorter length, and placement of force on certain kinds of holds, makes the ring finger the most frequently injured of the fingers.

other than the risk of ring avulsion

and as cracklover has mentioned, the mechanics of the ring finger lack the dedicated muscles compared to your other digits making them significantly weaker. this paradoxically makes them prone to trigger finger or pulley injury as well

My Prince Albert ring makes me all powerful.

My wedding ring ... not so much.

Yeah. Correlation does not equal causation.

I knew if I waited long enough I'd trip you up on something. When women put rings on their fingers, it causes a correlation to a near instantaneous bloating and fattening which only increases with age. It curiously somehow affects their desire for sexual relations and desire to give oral sex as well.

Causation does equal correlation! Hah! 'splain that!

Well i've been ring free for a couple of weeks but the ring finger still feels a little weaker.

No idea if it was caused by wearing my ring or not but it does seem to be healing up slowly
