Hi I'm a climber from Oregon and my son is in basic training at Lackland in San Antonio. He is graduating in March and we will only have a small amount of free time on his weekend passes to leave base so i was looking for some places to climb there. sport routes mostly. we both climb at smith rock but want to see what is around san antonio. like i said we will only have about 4 hours of free time to climb so it will have to be close to lackland. I wanted to goto e rocks but mapquest says its almost 2 hours away. any help would be great! May all of your clips be quick and your placements solid!!!

Howdy Chop, One of the best resources for Texas climbing is the forum at ERockOnline: http://erockonline.com/forum/upload/index.php Most of the climbing is closer to Austin although there are a few spots in the SA area. Best to search the ERO forum. Good luck.

If you are looking to just climb in SA for a real quick 4 hours I would go to medicine wall. It is not comparable to smith, but it is our local crag with some solid routes. Check out mountainproject.com for better beta. or email me at kevthegerman@gmail.com for more info.
