Hey everyone, I know that this is my first post on here so bear with me. I am looking at getting a new rope. I am mostly lead climbing on 5.10-5.10+ with some top roping.
I am looking at two different ropes
the First: http://www.backcountry.com/edelweiss-curve-arc-9.8mm-climbing-rope
the second:http://www.rei.com/product/809407/mammut-apex-classic-105mm-x-60m-non-dry-rope
what do you guys think would be the better for me to go with or do you have any suggestions. id like to keep the price around 175 as i am a poor college kid.

I have the apex classic and have no complaints though I am no expert. I don't see any reason to risk a smaller rope as I am not doing anything hard enough to justify the need to reduce weight.

I'm no expert either, but the Edelweiss looks like a steal just because bicolor ropes are usually a bit more expensive, but that doesn't matter much if you're just sport climbing at the crag. I also prefer a little skinnier rope (I got a 9.4, but that's almost too skinny).

If its your first rope just get the Ally 10.3mm. Its some $129 for a 60m (full retail). There is no reason to drop a bunch of cash on your first rope, play the game a bit, see how you like the rope, then be more selective on your second rope purchase run.

My partner bought an edelweiss ropes - within days it had a core shot - and we had only been climbing routes we'd climbed a hundred times before with no rope issues. Within a few months there were numerous areas that were either severely abraded or core-shot. Worst rope I've ever seen in my life. They are cheap for a reason.
Mammut ropes are solid.

it actually matters sometimes if you want to be able to see the middle marker on your rope ...
or want to be able to see the rope in poorer lighting conditions ...

For indoor leading I use this rope

its cheap, has a nice hand, and with 36% elongation is a fairly sure bet for a soft catch.
I've never used it outdoors and likely wouldn't as i have better ropes for outdoors and I prefer to use a rope that doesnt stretch so much because outdoors has more features that I could hit on a larger fall. I bought it online at Lacordee plein air and if you use promo code Natur3 you get $15 off. this is a Canadian online retailer and I live in Canada, don't know where you are from.
For outdoor sport i bought this somewhat impulsively after my petzl zehpyr 10.3 sheath tore while pulling up the rope to rap and clean at anchors on a sport route... 3 great ropes at or lower than the price you wanted. just depends what you are going to do with them.
