Hey all,

Hopefully this won't be a repeat post, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any tools to draw up topo route maps for climbs. There are climbs I've been able to gather a lot of beta on and was thinking about drawing up maps. I normally just scratch it out with a pen and paper, but would be really interested in some type of computer program where I could print something out that looked a little nicer.

Peace all.

I don't like any of the computer programs I've seen. All guide book that I can think of you hand drawn topos.
You can scan your drawn topo then use something like Adobe illustrator to tweek it. Use the trace tool and levels.

Although I've never used the program for climbing area mapping or route documentation, Microsoft Visio has worked really well for me in the Fire Department applications of mapping. You can copy any image (satellite, face topo, etc) onto your map page and then use the tools to make whatever to notations you would like (route names, route lines on face, anchor locations, approach trails, etc.) It's realitively easy to use in the beginning and with a little practive you can do some fairly complex stuff. It is a bit pricey though. Last I saw the professional version was going for around $600. Good luck in your mapping quest.

Here's a couple of free programs for drawing route maps:
Beta Creator (the one I prefer):
