Art Morimitsu or artm, as most of you here knew him, passed away this morning after losing his battle with cancer. He will be missed by so many!

Damn... Karen and I will miss you, brutha... You are very important to us. So many times you climbed with us, all over the place. There has been a pic of you in our climbing room ever since it was built, as you are one of our favorite people. RIP my good friend.

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear this. I really liked him. I hadn't seen him for a few years out in Josh and was wondering what was up. Art was a really good guy. What kind of cancer did he have? My condolences to his family, again, what a stand up guy!!!! Robert Fonda Joshua Tree

This is such sad news... Art was so full of life, and even though I never met him, I felt his enthusiasm and spirit through his interactions on this site and the occasional pm. We're gonna miss you, Art!! Your memory will live on strong! *waves*

I had the pleasure of climbing with Art a few times many years ago, and getting to hang out with him a bunch at the gym. I don't climb much anymore, and had lost touch. I wish I hadn't. Art was truly one of the most authentically nice guys I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. shitty news.

I wasn't as close to Art as some, but I liked him, he made me laugh, he was a friend. He will be missed.

I learned about a month ago that Art had cancer and the prognosis wasn't good. I have nothing but good memories of Art--climbing together in Joshua Tree, him getting all of us kicked out of the High Desert Motel--good stuff. I will sincerely miss him. Will there be a service or memorial? Curt

I rarely check in over here any more but I knew there'd be a tribute thread for Art. Thanks for doing so, Kelly. I was lucky enough to have roped up with him a few times and have some great memories of hanging out with him around several different camp fires. He was a dear friend to many of us and was a warm and loyal friend to those he let into his life. I hadn't seen him in several years and that's probably the biggest regret I have about his passing. When he got the bleak diagnosis of late stage lung cancer last year he didn't even want anyone to know, and as he got more ill he definitely didn't want any visitors. I respected that wish but I would have loved to have roped up with him one more time. Thank you, Art for your friendship and all the memories you've left us with. Your presence will be missed in the climbing community and among all those you have touched over the years. Rest easy, Art, and climb free.

I'm not sure what to say just yet. What's in my heart hasn't quite made it to my head yet. But I'm sure words will come. Until then...

Art and I had a symbiotic relationship on climbing trips. We (Anna and I) would bring all the food and Art would bring a bottle of tequila. This is from one of our trips to the Eastern Sierras: That's Art in the middle with the tequila bottle.

It's been years since we have seen Art. One of the last times we saw Art, was out in J-tree and I was pregnant with our first son Justice....who now probably is taller then Art. Which if you know Art, most people are taller than him. He was one of our favorite people to climb with. Malibu, J-tree, Big bear, williamson. We always had fun! He taught me once this hand gesture that went with words and over the years I still use it and think about him. What Ever.......Major Loser..........Bite Me! (sorry can't show the hand gesture for it) Sad, we can't say good bye but he will always be remembered! RIP Art
