I am planning a trip to the Swiss/Italian Alps this summer and debating if I should use the Patagonia R1 Hoody or the NW Alpine Spider Hoody as my mid-layer. Thoughts? Thanks.

Reward the innovator: R1 Hoody. The NW thing looks like a 100% knockoff. I <3 my R1 Hoody. You won't be sad! Josh

I love the R1 on rock, ice, and alpine. One of my absolute favorite pieces--surprisingly warm, compresses well enough when necessary, doesn't make me overheat. It seems to do just about everything pretty well. Only downside is lack of serious wind-stoppage. Check out a full review I did on my blog a while ago: http://rockriverrun.blogspot.com/...a-mens-r1-hoody.html

I have the R1 hoody and love it, but if I were to do it again than I would go with NW alpine. There hoody is a little lighter weight and my R1 is too warm in most summer conditions. NW Alpine is super high quality stuff and a great small local (if you live in the North West) manufacture.
