hi there,
I'm planning to be in vegas at the end of May and I guess the temps are going to be pretty warm by then.
Which crags are OK for those conditions? I don't mind waking up at 6AM and climb till noon only if needed.
We're looking to climb 11+ to 12+. The Gallery sounds good but the guidebook says shade till late morning in late spring, so I'm not sure what it means really.
Thanks!
Chris

PS: I'm talking about sportclimbing exclusively...

If I recall right, the Gallery gets sun for most of the day in the summer. I think it might get morning shade. Anyway, you can chase shade at the second pull out, the walls are orientated so that something is always in the shade. There was a wall down in the Calico Hills that got pretty nice shade for most of the day. It was 110 degrees out there in July the last time I was there and it was a reasonable 85 or so in the shade. I have been there a number of times when it was over 100 degrees for many days straight (including at night) and I was still able to climb fine. The problem, however, is finding camping. The campground is closed in the summer so you have to get a hotel or drive up to the lake and use their campground. You can get a fairly nice hotel for $25-35 a night during the week if you use the net. The hotels really drop their prices during the summer during the week.

Here you go, I was in RR last July and my car said this:

It was so hot the heat melted the lens on my camera and gave me a crap shot photo. Wink
