Hey name is Mike, I am very active and competitive I am always looking for the new rush as I tend to try everything once!

I have been building up crazy upper body strength. I am very fit at the moment and know what kind of body it takes to climb.

I have done mini rock climbs free hand nothing crazy but a good start. My plans are to start small and build my way up! I take things very serious when I try, I seriously give it my all.

ANYWAYS.... I live in Southern California about 5 hours from Mammoth. I go to Mammoth a lot winter/summer.
My goal is to hike/climb Mtn Whitney. I would like to know from you experienced guys/girls where I can go that's around me to boost my experience as well.Tongue

This kind of made me chuckle. What kind of body does it take to climb?

Anyway... welcome. Hopefully you can find someone out your way to show you some technique, which will be far more important than upper body strength.

Oh for sure, I am glad I can amuse you.

ANYWAYS.... I do understand that technique is very important. I do believe that being fit is just as important "chuckles".

So where are the people on this forum that want to help me? Or is this just another one of those, lets point and chuckle @ the newbie for his stupid questions....

NOW, I am sure a lot of you are in the CA area. If you could help me out on some good newbie spots, it would be much appreciated!

First, calm down man... But anyway this post seams more boasting about your body strength then climbing... To answer your questions, I'm not really sure what you mean? Get a guide to teach you abut climbing and make sure you really want to do it before you commit. The climbing "body" I'd like to have is lean muscle mass. Its not all about the big beefy arms and burly bodies. Its much different and uses more technique then pure force.

What are some good guides you would recommend? I was not applying I was some meat head. I was just trying to say, I am focusing on getting fit for the sport.

Sorry about my last post I felt like I was being a little mean but anyway, It depends where you live. Google rock climbing guides in your area and call them up. I'd go for an introductory to rock climbing class.
